Anna Hunt

I work with ceramics to create objects that rekindle a forgotten, childlike sense of curiosity and delight from the onlooker. The scenes and compositions captured upon the surfaces speak of historic grandeur and past traditions, whilst whispering sentiments of mystery and enchantment. Each piece has a story to tell, and tempts your imagination to assign a narrative.
My current body of work radiates the preoccupation I have with historic interiors for their excessive decoration, opulence, and obsessive collections. Drawings of these elements are playfully combined to compose the images featured. Scale and setting is often distorted to keep the images fresh and stimulating. Visual depth is achieved through the many layers of colours, markings and transfers that form the image. The resulting objects exert a rich and captivating presence that delights, intrigues and is sometimes haunting to the eye.
